I recently have started this project taking a peek @ the many different websites we host across the Vine Network I noticed that many have little to zero presence for their youth groups in the church.
While driving to Ginghamsburg from NJ I took time to call a number of these churches.
I asked what was going on - is there something we can help with - and almost all responded with - we have no clue what to place there…
Some said - We have no youth group -
Others said - why post youth stuff in the first place -they already have their own web stuff such as myspace and such…
I probed a little more - made some suggestions and found that some churches are very resistant to working with youth…
This scares me …
In probing further I found a bunch of church goers that are scared of today’s youth - scared to interact with them - for fear that they will turn them off…
What I am concerned with is - instead of turning the youth off by saying the wrong thing - they have turned the youth off all together…
Silence is Silence - no matter who’s fault…
Either someone is not listening - or someone is not Speaking…
What is worse?
I think not speaking is - If we are given a commandment to Go into all the World… to love our neighbor as ourselves… what are we leaving as a legacy ?
With so many persons leaving the faith - and the church daily… perhaps its time our church leadership wakes up to the simple fact.
“Without Youth the ‘local’ church will die… ”
“Number of Unchurched Adults Has Nearly Doubled Since 1991,” The Barna Report, May 4, 2004, http://www.barna.org/FlexPage.aspx?Page=BarnaUpdate&BarnaUpdateID=163.
“There are 3000 people every 24 hours that are leaving the faith”, writes Bill Tenny-Brittian. The problem is not just declining members or attendance - but so much more.
Pray for these churches - Pray for the youth.
Is the youth left to be dead in the dark that the Church just can’t fight because its asleep in the light?
